Review of Technologies for Gasification of Biomass and Wastes

E4tech reviewed current and emerging gasifier technologies that are suitable for liquid fuel production from syngas, including their type, characteristics, status, prospects and costs, together with their suitability for the UK, in terms of suitable feedstocks and scales. Our review includes conclusions on each of these topics, together with detailed annexes on each gasifier manufacturer. Data was collected via public reports, developer websites and contacting national experts.

What policies are effective at reducing carbon emissions from surface passenger transport?

Although there have been many policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions from surface passenger transport, there has been little evidence showing their effectiveness. Working with UKERC, E4tech undertook a systematic search to review over 500 reports on CO2 emission reduction potential and cost-effectiveness across policies that target car technology/choice and those that target wider travel choices. We identified the key issues and problems associated with each policy type, whether and where policies are complementary or synergistic, and identified evidence gaps and future research needs. The report provided a thorough review of the current state of knowledge, guided by experts and in consultation with a range of stakeholders.
