E4tech Director Dr David Hart will join other industry experts, financiers, policymakers and thought leaders at the IHT Global Clean Energy Forum 2013 in Doha, Qatar where they will explore the new energy reality – that of abundant fossil fuels, cooling political sentiment towards renewables and risk-averse investors – and its impact on the journey towards a sustainable future. On 9 October, David will offer his insight on innovation in sustainable transport, presenting facts about electric vehicles, biofuels, and their impact on the traditional automakers and fuel providers.
On 2 October, E4tech's Luca Bertuccioli will join members of the government, academia, and the private & public sectors at the WTO Public Forum 2013 for a panel discussion on global value chains in green goods and services. The annual event, hosted by the World Trade Organisation, aims to provide a platform for public debate across a wide range of WTO issues and trade topics. Using photovoltaics as an example, Luca will discuss how the dependence on policy incentives to create the market for sustainable energy technologies has meant that these markets have moved around quite rapidly as policy regimes have changed.
On 25-26 September 2013, E4tech Director Dr Ausilio Bauen will join biofuel industry players at Lignofuels 2013 in London to discuss ways to advance the development and roll-out of technologies for biorefineries in the light of the economic and policy context. Ausilio will provide the keynote address at the conference, discussing the status and prospects of the advanced biofuels industry.
On 29 August, E4tech’s Dr François Vuille will moderate a debate on the future of energy supply in rural areas at the eco.villages event in Les Diablerets, Switzerland. Eco.villages aims to be a neutral platform for discussion of economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable development pathways for villages – particularly in mountain regions. The 2nd edition of the event will look at the emerging sustainable economic sectors for villages, the cohesion between cities and villages, and will feature high profile speakers, including Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch, Director of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic affairs; Bertrand Piccard, President of Solar Impulse; Michael Liebreich, CEO of Bloomberg New Energy Finance; and André Schneider, Vice-president of the EPFL.
An article and video are now available on E4tech Director Dr Ausilio Bauen's participation in a panel discussion on the role of the legislator and policy in the future of biofuels at the House of Commons as part of the Sustainable Resilience Series. The panel discussion touched on the sustainability of current biofuels activities, the uncertainties characterising the sector and how they affect the industry and policy-making, the need for a more evidence-based debate, and the importance of an energy and environmental policy framework that is conducive to sustainable biofuels.
