The UK aviation industry has committed to achieving net zero CO2 emissions in 2050, while accommodating 64% growth in passenger numbers. E4tech analysis indicates that the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) could contribute up to 32% of the required emission reduction in 2050. Additional emission reductions are made through the impact of a carbon price on demand, improved operations, fleet upgrades and market-based mechanisms.
E4tech analysed the potential to scale-up SAF production, based on in-depth knowledge of the SAF production landscape today. Constructing SAF production facilities in the UK could have substantial benefits in terms of jobs and economic value. The UK aviation industry is now asking the UK government to support both the production and use of SAF in the UK.
