Ethical framework for biofuels needed

A recent report by the Nuffield Council on Bioethics highlights the need for a repositioning of EU biofuel policy. The Council report concludes that biofuels per se are not unethical but that policy as it stands can encourage unethical practices. It calls for a global mandatory sustainability standard for biofuels. Its conclusions on the most effective way to deal with the issue of indirect land use echo those drawn by E4tech in its response to the European Commission ILUC consultation.
